Project X #1

Welcome to Project X: A Crossroads Experience.

What is Project X? I’m glad you asked…

Project X is all about the past week’s project that I worked on at Crossroads. Such as any audio wiring, or lighting upgrading, or video installation.

Another question you may have…

Why the “X”? I’m glad you asked…

Everything Corssroads has marketed has called the church “Xroads Church”. The website is xroadschurch.net; the twitter account is @xroadschurch; the logo is even a giant yellow “X”. So that’s why the X.

So now that you know all about Project X, let’s get started with the first ever…

Project X: A Crossroads Experience

This week, Project X was all about organization. I’ll be honest, there is very little that is organized well at Crossroads, at least on the avl side of things. The only storage space we really had was actually our backstage area on the main auditorium stage. There were shelves and boxes and totes and bins all over the place. Needless to say, it was very crammed back there, and things very rarely got put back into place. Actually, things didn’t really have a place to begin with, which was the problem to start with.

The reason we decided to hit organization on my first week is that we got our very own storage room! I feel like such a dork, but it really was great. We started a whole new storage system. Before this week, every different size bolt was thrown into the same box, with the nuts and washers still attached. If you wanted a 1/4″ x 1″ hex bolt, you’d have to dig through a box that had hex bolts, lag screws, and dry wall anchors all in it. Now, each size and length bolt, screw, nut, washer, and whatever else has it’s very own bin. Next week I’m gonna finish up and put labels on each bin. So, if you want a 1/4″ x 1″ hex bolt, you look in the bin labeled “1/4″ x 1″ hex bolt”! How great is that! If you want a screw driver, you look in the tool box labeled “Screwdrivers”. It’s really incredible. All the lighting equipment has it’s own shelving unit. All the fixtures are together, all the different clamps are in separate bins on the same shelf. It’s really incredible.

So that’s really nice. The storage room locks so if we don’t want anyone going through our stuff, they can’t, unlike the completely unlocked backstage area. We have a desk for a soldering station and repair work that might need to be done. It’s really incredible. I can’t tell you how much we found that had been missing for a while, or things I didn’t even know we had.

So that was this weeks Project X. I’m glad it’s done. Everything is in it’s own specific place. The challenge now, is making sure people put things back where they got them from…
