Sunday Set List

What a crazy day yesterday was! I mean it was nuts. It was absolutely fantastic, but it was also crazy. But before I delve into that too much, here’s our set list…

What had Mr. Jason Rich leading us worship. Jason is a great guy that I’ve had great pleasure in working with pretty often for the past couple of months. He’s a phenomenal vocalist for sure(He was actually on American Idol a couple seasons ago). But he’ll never tell you that, so I just did. Anyways, it’s been cool to see Jason grow as a worship leader little by little in just the short time he’s been with us. Not that I have anything to do with that. He’s just getting some good experience I think is all it is. So here’s the set Jason led us in…

Marvelous Light – Charlie Hall

Came to my Rescue – Hillsong United

Saviour King – Hillsong United

How He Loves – Eddie Kirkland

See, this weekend was actually a baptism service. The entire day was all about our lives being changed by God and showing that life change through baptism, as Jesus commanded us to do. I think that was very well reflected in our song choice, which is important to us. It was also an open baptism, which basically means that we opened it up for anyone who wanted to get baptized to do so right them and there. It was really phenomenal. It was so cool to see people just get out of their seats in the middle of the service to go get baptized.

One of the very cool elements we used was a video that went along with “How He Loves” that I think I heard Lanny Donoho’s son actually made. It was perfect for yesterday’s service because the video is all about water. Whoever made the video really played off the “If grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking” lyric in the song. So naturally, water and baptism are a great fit. The most difficult part of the song was the click. The video is built to flow right with the song, obviously, so we added the click to the video. This is very different for us because the drummer always controls the click. The band did a great job following the click, but it obviously took a couple measures to get used to. But they totally killed it once the time came for it in the service.

So that was really cool, but the best part of all…

28 people got baptized!

You just can’t beat that. The best part for me was during the open baptism call during the second service. Megan, who was volunteering running CG, asked me if it would be cool if she stepped out of the tech booth and got baptized during the second service! It so great to see her take that step, and that she didn’t let the fact that she was “supposed to be running CG” stop her. Brian and I were both back in the tech booth looking on sort of like proud fathers. That’s kind of a creepy example, but that’s just what it was.

So despite the craziness, like not doing a couple mic checks on some wireless mics, and being told in the middle of Greg’s message, “Hey we need another mic back here for the baptisms”, it was a phenomenal day. No amount of technical issues can overshadow God moving in people’s lives. So thank you Crossroads and everyone who was involved for a fantastic service!
