Project X #14
Welcome ladies and gents to the 14th episode of Project X.
Honestly, there really wasn’t much to this week for me at the church. Part of the reason is I was only in the office for about 2.5 hours on Wednesday. My sister had surgery that morning, so I went to the hospital that afternoon. But some how, I was able to have lights and CG fully programmed in less that 2 hours! Part of it is we’re only doing 3 songs this weekend, 2 of which we’ve done recently.
Probably the best part of my week was having lunch with Chris Wang(twitter.com/chriswang5). Chris is the Pastor of Media and Technology at Sharon Church, the church that gave me my start in ministry. We went to lunch Wednesday partially to hang out a little, but also to talk about some stuff that’s going on at Sharon Church. They’re getting ready to do some MAJOR upgrades to their entire system in their worship center, audio, lights, and video. The reason they’re upgrading everything is the worship pastor who was there when the worship center was designed is no longer there. The worship center as it is currently is exactly what the previous worship pastor wanted, but it’s not exactly what the new worship pastor and Chris want, thus the upgrades. So for whatever reason, Chris thinks I actually know what I’m talking about with technology as it applies to worship(when there’s guys who have been doing it much longer and much better than I am), and he wanted to ask me some questions about that stuff. And I know he just really wanted to treat me to lunch at Chow Baby. But it was great to give Chris was little advice I have and hear the latest on how Sharon Church is doing. That church and the people there will always hold a special place in my heart.
The only other major part of the week was troubleshooting a projector in the Warehouse(our student environment). When turning the projector on, it would begin to power up fine, then there would be 3 clicks, and it would go into standby. I took the projector down, pulled out the lamp, and guess what I found. One layer of glass was cracked, and another had completely shattered. Also, something else shattered and is falling out of cracks in the lamp. So I pulled that out, powered up the projector and heard no clicking. So I’m hoping that’s all it was. The projector also hasn’t been cleaned, ever I think. So I gave it a little bit of a cleaning, other than what I couldn’t get to because of stupid allen wrench screws. But I cleaned what I could, so that should help a little.
I also had to do a clean up in the matter of a major goof I had this weekend. Well, it was really more than a goof. It was a major screw up. Our adults ministry pastor spoke, so he used a different mic from what our lead pastor uses. Well, I totally forgot to turn up the aux that feeds the HD recorder for the message. Yeah, big mistake. So yesterday morning, he had to go back in the worship center and give his message again. I hated it for him because he really needed to be getting ready for his message this weekend, but because I jacked it up, he lost an hour of his morning to record the message. Hopefully that’s the last time that happens.
The last really cool part of the week, was having our current stage design here at Crossroads featured on Church Stage Design Ideas(http://www.churchstagedesignideas.com). It’s an awesome website that spotlights different churches stage designs every day. I love the website, and I subscribe to the RSS feed because it’s a great place for getting ideas for stage designs, and they always get the details on the materials and such. Definitely check them out, and click on the “Tubey and Not Tubey” post a lot! (http://www.churchstagedesignideas.com/tubey-or-not-tubey/)
And that was mostly my week. Unfortunately, there was more that I didn’t get done than what I did get done. But again, Wednesday was a little short. Hopefully I can get some other stuff done next week that’s been put on the backburner the past couple of weeks, such as installing the Shure wireless antenna paddles we’ve had for the past 3 weeks.
