Sunday Set List 7/18/10

Hello once again!

Sorry this is a day late. It’s been a crazy week and honestly, writing wasn’t even close to being on my radar yesterday. But alas, here it is.

It was once again a crazy weekend. I’m starting to fee like what I would describe as “crazy” might actually be the norm around here. I think it’s just the stress of it all too. Sundays are what I spend all of my week getting ready for, so I guess there an inherent amount of stress involved in that. But still, it felt crazy once again. Part of it was having the Night of Worship I think.

To start off, I spent a lot more time that usual trying to get volunteers set up for the weekend. I was having to find someone for CG and Backstage because the guys I originally scheduled got pulled into work last minute or just hadn’t responded to my emails. So that was a little stressful in and of itself. But then it all worked out fine. The guy who was pulled into work got off, and the guy who hadn’t responded to emails suddenly did. So that was a good feeling.

Also, we had guy leading worship with us for the 1st time. That’s always a fun experience. I realized this weekend that I need to do a better job of talking with someone who comes into our church for the first time, just so I can be prepared for them. For instance, Matt, who led worship this weekend, had an LR Baggs preamp for his acoustic. Now, that’s not a big deal, but I still wasn’t prepared for it like I could have been.

So let’s jump into it. For the band, we had Matt Vaughan lead worship. Matt is a guy who runs in the Midtown Church circle here in Atlanta. He did a great job for it being his first time with us. Most worship leader when they come in for the 1st time aren’t real sure how to lead worship here. Matt didn’t hesitate or hold back. He came in and led worship they way he knew how to, and he did great. Cody Preston played lead guitar. By the way, Happy Birthday Cody! I’m a day late on that, sorry. Cody just turned 19, and he’s honestly one of the best guitarists I know. And did I mention he’s only 19? Jon Sheets played bass. Brian Preston played drums. And Dan Snyder played keys. We had a couple problems with the line from Dan’s keys, which is quite unfortunate because Dan is great.

And for the set list, first for the morning services…

Like a Lion – David Crowder
Jesus Paid It All – Kristian Stanfill
You Never Let Go – Matt Redman

And for the Night of Worship…

Like a Lion – David Crowder
All Because of Jesus – Steve Fee
Glory to God Forever – Steve Fee
Beautiful Jesus – Kristian Stanfill
Who is Like the Lord – Unhindered
Jesus Paid It All – Kristian Stanfill
Our God – Chris Tomlin
God is Alive – Steve Fee

The Night of Worship was great. I honestly felt like it was the best one we’ve had in a while. Matt did a great job leading us through that. His style of worship leading is pretty different from what we typically have. Matt is the kind of guy who likes to “flow”. He’ll get to thee end of a song and make up a chorus to sing. That’s the best way I know to describe it. We hardly ever have anyone do that here. It was great. Just the kind of thing you look for in a Night of Worship. I did for the 1st time ever have someone come back to the Production booth and literally say, “It’s kind of hard to sing along when you don’t know where he’s going.” My response, “Yeah, we don’t know where he’s going either!” Like I said, it was different from our typical thing, but it was great.

And I’m very happy to say that the lights worked perfectly despite our fiasco at the end of last week.

And that was pretty much it. Other than a fun last second audible. Because we had the Night of Worship in place of our normal 6pm service, we dropped that morning’s message on CD real quick and had it available for people to pick up for free. We had one of our pastors come out during the Night of Worship to talk about communion, and he was supposed to mention the free CD’s then. But he forgot, because he was focused on communion. So during the 2nd to last song, Kurt Dean, our executive pastor, comes back to me and asks if we mentioned the CD. So we decided he would run up on stage immediate after the last song and tell everyone then. Totally not planned at all. So there I am scrambling to get him a pack and countryman. But it actually worked out perfectly. No one ever knew.

I have to say thank you to everyone who helped yesterday. Jesse Gainer, Doug Anderson, Joe Flevet, Monte Howton, Justin Owens, and David Anthony. Without all of you our services would have been terrible.
